Percentage formula: Result = (value / 100) * percentage
Basic value formula: Basic value = (value / percentage) * 100
Percentage formula: Percentage = (value / basic value) * 100
Increase formula: Result = (value / 100) * (100 increase)
Decrease formula: Result = (value / 100) * (100 - decrease)
Percentage calculation
Percentage calculation is an essential part of mathematics and is widely used in many everyday situations, such as when calculating discounts, interest, taxes and when analyzing statistical data.
The term "percent" comes from Latin and means "per hundred". One percent (%), symbolized by the percent sign, therefore corresponds to one hundredth.
There are three basic components in percentage calculation: the percentage (p), the basic value (G) and the percentage value (W). These components are related to each other as follows: W = p/100 * G.
1. the percentage (p) is the proportion represented by a number of hundred parts.
2. the basic value (G) is the total quantity or the whole to which the percentage refers.
3. the percentage value (W) is the part of the basic value represented by the percentage.
If you know two of these values, you can calculate the third. For example, if you have a discount of 20% on an item worth 50 euros, you can calculate the discount amount (W) by multiplying the percentage (p) by the basic value (G) and dividing by 100: W = 20/100 * 50 = 10 euros.
Percentage calculation is a powerful tool for making comparisons, measuring change and making decisions, and it is a central element in many areas, from personal financial planning to scientific research.
